Join us for Denim Day 2010 on Wednesday, April 21st!
Make a powerful statement without saying a word.
Why denim? Denim Day has been internationally celebrated since 1999 in protest of an Italian Supreme Court ruling that overturned a rape conviction because the victim was wearing jeans.
In 1992, an 18-year-old girl in Italy was raped by her driving instructor during a driving lesson. She pressed charges and won her case. The instructor appealed and in 1999, the Court overturned the 1992 rape conviction with a member of the High Court declaring that since the victim wore very tight jeans, the instructor could not have removed them himself, therefore the victim must have willingly participated.
Women of the Italian Legislature protested the decision by wearing jeans to work. As news of the decision spread, so did the protest. In April 1999, a social service agency in Los Angeles, California established the first Denim Day in the United States.
SACASA carries on this tradition. We wear denim to dispel harmful myths about sexual violence and survivors.
We invite your workplace to join us! Raise awareness of sexual violence and funds to help survivors by inviting employees to donate $1-$5 to wear jeans.
When you return this form, we will mail stickers to you for your participating employees. And we'll acknowledge your business or organization on our website!
Donations can be sent to: SACASA, 1600 N. Country Club Rd., Tucson AZ, 85716. If you have any questions, contact Rowan Frost at 520.327.1171.
Thank you for your commitment to services for survivors of sexual violence!
