Battered Immigrant Women - Su Voz Vale leads the Pima County Battered Immigrant Women’s Taskforce, part of the Southern Arizona Battered Immigrant Women’s Project. The goal of the Taskforce is to improve the access to culturally appropriate services for immigrant families who are victims of domestic and sexual violence, thereby ensuring their rights under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). The project’s focus includes community based research and analysis of gaps in services for this population, education and training for professionals in the criminal justice system, medical and victim services systems on the rights provided under VAWA for this community, public awareness to raise community awareness about these issues, and enhancement of victim advocacy throughout rural Pima County.

The Taskforce operates through a federal grant in partnership with The Governor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families - Division for Women which coordinates this project.

The ongoing resources subcommittee recently wrote a report about the experience of women going through the VAWA self-petition process. If you would like a full copy of the report, please contact Montserrat Caballero, Pima County Taskforce Coordinator at 520-434-0195 or mcaballero@arizonaschildren.org.
