YOUTH TAKE BACK THE NIGHT
Tuesday, April 15, 2008
6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Catalina Park (Mapquest directions)
900 N 4th Ave
, Tucson, AZ

Tucson, AZ - A coalition of organizations in Tucson will join forces later this month to support Tucson's young people in producing an event to raise awareness about sexual assault and relationship violence.

The annual Take Back the Night event, which has happened in communities throughout the United States since 1978, is a protest against sexual assault and domestic violence. It is an event that allows people from all walks of life to demand safety on the streets and in their homes, both during the day and at night. Last year's event was a first for Tucson - the first time the well-known event was be entirely youth-led and youth-organized. This year, we're doing it again!

The organizations supporting these young people are the Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault, Rincon High School, Project MORE, KARE Center, EON Youth Lounge, Our Family Teen Theater, and the Brewster Center. The event is targeted at young people and their families, and will feature artwork, poetry, drama, music, rape survivor testimonials, the Clothesline Project and a candlelight vigil. The focus of Tucson Youth Take Back the Night will be on raising community awareness about sexual assault and relationship, empowering young people to speak out against such violence, and giving them the resources to seek help if they need it.

Tucson Youth Take Back the Night will take place on Tuesday, April 15 - as part of National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month - starts at 6:00 PM at Catalina Park (Mapquest directions).
