Volunteer

We welcome the time and energy of community members to help address the issues of sexual assault in our community and to help us provide support and intervention to those who have been affected.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Volunteer Crisis Advocates
  • Clinical Interns (encompasses advocacy and therapy)

Volunteer Crisis Advocates
Help us provide support and crisis intervention to anyone who has been sexually assaulted or has been affected by sexual violence.

Crisis Advocate volunteers provide crisis intervention, advocacy, information and referrals for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. Advocates answer crisis calls via agency cell phones and respond to the hospital after office hours and on weekends. Survivors may be of any age, gender, sexual orientation, race, etc.

Responsibilities include:

  • Respond to local hospitals when patients report sexual assault.
  • Provide emotional support.
  • Advocate for and assist victims in connecting with support services within the community including shelters, law enforcement and medical and social services.
  • Provide brief crisis intervention.
  • Maintain confidentiality of clients.
  • Document all activities appropriately.
  • Assist with care coordination for integrated care services, as needed.
  • Take at least two (2) on-call shifts each month.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge and sensitivity regarding issues of sexual assault, human trafficking and domestic violence.
  • Ability to make a long-term commitment. This includes availability on evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to complete the initial training program and follow-up shadowing.

Availability:

  • Evenings, holidays and weekends
  • Weekday on-call shift (5:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m.)
  • Weekend on-call shift (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m.)

Other:

  • All advocates will have a yearly evaluation and the opportunity to evaluate the volunteer program as well.
  • Advocates are required to follow all policies and procedures outlined in the training and offered in the on-call manuals.

Clinical Interns
SACASA offers outstanding hands-on learning opportunities to Clinical Interns who provide crisis intervention, advocacy and psychotherapy to survivors of sexual assault. Clinical internships are unpaid and are internships associated with an academic institution. If you are interested in a Clinical Internship, please email Patrick Porter at pporter@codac.org.


UPCOMING ADVOCATE TRAINING INFORMATION
SACASA provides Crisis Intervention Training for Crisis Advocates working for the Sexual Assault Response Service (SARS) program, which involves dispatching to local hospitals.

The next on-site training dates are:

December 1st and 2nd from 8AM - 5PM

December 8th and 9th from 8AM - 5PM

All four training days are required.
