Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we pause to honor the lives of transgender and gender-diverse individuals who have been lost to acts of violence. This day is not only about remembrance — it is a call to action.Transgender people, particularly trans women of color, face disproportionate rates of sexual violence. According to national data, nearly half of transgender individuals experience sexual assault in their lifetime, a staggering statistic that underscores the urgent need for advocacy, education and support. At the Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault (SACASA), we stand in solidarity with the transgender community. Our work is rooted in the belief that every person deserves safety, dignity and healing. We provide trauma-informed services that affirm gender identity and respect the unique experiences of survivors. This includes:💜 24/7 crisis support for anyone impacted by sexual violence💜 Counseling and advocacy tailored to the needs of LGBTQ+ survivors💜Community education to challenge stigma and promote inclusivityViolence against transgender individuals is not inevitable — it is preventable. By raising awareness, fostering acceptance, and ensuring access to compassionate care, we can create a safer Southern Arizona for all.Today, we remember. Tomorrow, we continue the work.If you or someone you know needs support, call our 24-hour Sexual Assault Crisis Line at (520) 327-1171. ... See MoreSee Less

Today, our community unveiled a vital new tool to help identify strangulation injuries -- an often invisible, but deadly form of violence. With support from the Erik Hite Foundation, League of Women Voters of Arizona, Emerge and Tucson Police Department, we're taking a survivor-centered step forward in protecting lives and raising awareness. Tune in to local news this evening to learn more about the specialized camera equipment now in use by TPD to identify signs of non-fatal strangulation. ... See MoreSee Less
